Magic
Makers Costumes
announces the first Spirit of Halloween Short Film Showcase, an event focused on encouraging imaginative
filmmaking among local artists. The showcase, which is open to
all age groups, welcomes original horror, fantasy,
or science fiction films from regional filmmakers. The
best submissions will be exhibited on a sponsored television
program to be cablecast throughout the month of October.
Prizes will be awarded to best entries,
which will be determined by audience voting.
Television
Broadcast of Entries
What makes the showcase unique is its commitment to presenting
the filmmakers' work to a larger audience than possible within
the schedule of a conventional film festival. With one single
television broadcast, even in a small cable market, a film can
reach more viewers than multiple screenings at a festival.
Audience
Voting
Films are produced to please the masses, ultimately the audience
determines a film's true worth. With this in mind, it is only
fair that the viewing audience will determine the 'best of' among
the entries. Audience voting will be cast via written and email
ballots.
Horror,
Fantasy, Sci-Fi Theme
The horror/fantasy/sci-fi theme was chosen to allow the filmmakers
to be less inhibited in exercising their imagination. As maligned
as the genres are, horror and fantasy are still the most popular
in film. An examination of a list of all-time top grossing films
reveals that the majority of successful titles fall into these
categories.
Submissions
The rules for submissions are simple. All entries must be no
longer than 30 minutes in length. (The shorter, the better.)
Story genres accepted are horror, science fiction, or fantasy.
Films may be live action, animated, or experimental. Unfinished
works are also eligible. Stories and characters must be original
or an adaptation of a work in the public domain.
There is no fee for
submissions.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS HAS ENDED.
The
Spirit of Halloween Short Film Showcase will air on Huntington
Adelphia Cable Public Access Channel 20 in June.
